“Spain caused us problems with their pressing and their positioning on the pitch,” Sacchi told Sky Sport Italia.
“They move in harmony on the field of play, but Italy are on the right path. We have to thank the Italian players – they honoured our game.”
Sacchi is a former Italy boss who led the country to the 1994 World Cup Final, only to lose on penalties to Brazil.
The Milan legend is currently the technical co-ordinator of Italy’s international youth sides from Under-16 to Under-21 level.
