Italy have qualified for Euro 2024 and could meet three Italian coaches in the group stage next year.
The Azzurri have qualified for Germany 2024 following a 0-0 draw against Ukraine at the BayArena in Leverkusen on Monday night.
This means they will defend the European title next year, but Luciano Spalletti’s men will likely be in pot 4 in the group stage draw on December 2.
If Croatia beat Armenia tonight, the Azzurri will automatically finish in the fourth and final pot with high chances of meeting the strongest teams in the tournament.
However, as highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, they could even end up in a group with three Italian coaches: Domenico Tedesco, Marco Rossi and Vincenzo Montella or Francesco Calzona.
Tedesco’s Belgium will be in pot one, having won the Group F with 20 points. Tedesco was appointed as the Red Devils coach this past February.
Rossi’s Hungary will surely be in pot two, the same as Montella’s Turkey but the Aeroplanino’s side could still drop to pot three if Croatia beat Armenia and Turkey lose to Wales.
Another Italian coach, Francesco Calzona, is in charge of Slovakia who have qualified for the Euros and will be in pot three. Calzona is a familiar face for Spalletti as the 55-year-old was Luciano’s assistant coach at Napoli in 2021-22 before his appointment as Slovakia’s boss in August 2022.
