After Riccardo Saponara’s equaliser, Italiano shouted at his players: ‘Don’t forget, we are Spezia!’ What did he mean?
“In many games we lost important points in the final minutes, including Roma and Lazio, so there’s always that fear,” explained Italiano.
“We did well to get a point, and I am also happy that the two substitutes combined for the goal, as we need everyone on the pitch, on the bench and in the stands to give their contribution.
“We’ve made these enormous efforts this season and still have to push to the maximum right to the end. We went in with a bit of tension today, there’s not long to go and this point is so important.
“I am convinced the issue is always mental, because we held the best team in Italy – Inter – to a draw just over a week ago. My concern is when we lose our concentration.
“We have the quality and I am sure that fundamentally it will make the difference by the end of the season.”
