Inzaghi to return to Salernitana five weeks after sacking

Only five weeks after his dismissal, Salernitana are ready to bring back coach Filippo Inzaghi following Fabio Liverani’s failure to impress.

The former Milan striker turned up in Salerno in early October following the sacking of Paulo Sousa. His 18-match spell in charge was not a success, managing just three wins and four draws across his four months at the helm.

Salernitana decided enough was enough following a 3-1 loss to Empoli at home, sacking Inzaghi on February 11. Liverani, after almost two years out of work, arrived to take over, but he too hasn’t impressed, picking up just one point in his first five games in charge.

TMW details how Salernitana are ready to dismiss Liverani and bring back Inzaghi until the end of the season, seemingly accepting the imminent relegation to Serie B.

The Granata currently sit rock bottom of the league table with 14 points, 11 behind 17th place Empoli. The club had hoped their work in the January transfer window would lead to results on the pitch, but they still haven’t secured a win in 2024 yet.
