Inzaghi rates ‘second best’ Milan

Pippo Inzaghi insists that Milan are still a side to be respected in Serie A this season. “Only Juventus are better.”

The Rossoneri have had a poor start to the campaign, but the former striker – who quit the club in June to become a youth team boss with the Diavolo – has backed Coach Massimiliano Allegri to turn things around.

“There have been too many changes,” Inzaghi told the Corriere dello Sport. “The old guard has gone, as have Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Antonio Cassano.

“But we have to give the Coach some time because the squad is still excellent. Only Juventus have that something extra.”

The Rossoneri have lost both of their home games this term and they’ll be at San Siro this evening when they entertain Anderlecht in the Champions League.

“Milan are favourites to qualify from the group, then I’d put Zenit,” Super Pippo continued. “Saying that, it is a group which should not be underestimated. And I didn’t expect Malaga to be so strong.

“It will be important for us to finish top. Playing the first leg of the last 16 tie away from home is an advantage.”

Inzaghi still rates Barcelona as the best team in Europe, but admits that he has a soft spot for Paris Saint-Germain.

“Barcelona are on another planet and they are the best side to watch. If they play at 100 per cent then nobody can stop them.

“Sure, Real Madrid and Chelsea have, but that happens just once in a lifetime.

“If Milan don’t win the Champions League? I’d like it to go to Paris SG, to boss Carlo Ancelotti and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. After Milan, they are the first club who I keep an eye on.”
