Simone Inzaghi admits “football is a ruthless sport” after Lazio lost 1-0 to Chievo despite dominating the match.
“Football proved again tonight that it doesn’t allow you to get away with anything,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“It’s a real shame for the lads, as we deserved to win and ended up losing. This is football, it’s a ruthless sport, and tomorrow I’ll try to put this behind us to prepare for Tuesday and another important game against Inter.
“We lacked a clinical edge, but looking at the statistics with 26 shots to three it seems incredible. Unfortunately, Stefano Sorrentino had a dream performance this evening.
“I went back into the locker room and, as is only right, I told them to keep their chins up and be proud, because in my view we played a very good game.
“These things happen in football and we experienced a similar situation in Genoa last time. Sometimes you score with the first shot, sometimes you can’t get it in even after 30 attempts.”
There was tension after the final whistle, as Lucas Biglia had to be held back by stewards and staff when he heard abuse from a Lazio fan in the stands.
Youth team player Mamadou Tounkara was in the same area of the stands and he also had to be dragged back by by-standers to stop him attacking the supporter.
