Spurs manager Jose Mourinho seemed determined to keep hold of Ndombele next season, having spent €60m to sign him from Olympique Lyonnais only a year ago.

The 23-year-old has made 29 competitive appearances for Tottenham, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

This would be yet another player that coach Antonio Conte has requested from the Premier League, after Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young and Victor Moses.

Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio maintains this deal is a very long way from completion, as there are several difficulties, among them convincing Skriniar to accept Tottenham and the salary on offer.

Skriniar was the bedrock of the Inter defence last season, but has struggled to fit into Conte’s system of three at the back.

The 25-year-old is therefore on the transfer market, where he can make a hefty profit, considering Inter signed him from Sampdoria for €34m in the summer of 2017.

Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked with the Slovakia international centre-back.
