Sassuolo striker Antonio Floro Flores says the 7-0 home defeat to Inter earlier in the season was an important lesson for the newly promoted club.

The heavy Week 4 reverse to the Nerazzurri left the minnows at the bottom of the table with no points from their four games.

However, since that setback, the outfit have collected 10 points from their next eight games – including 1-1 draws at Roma and Napoli.

“That slap in the face against Inter redefined us, it made my teammates and I aware of the parameters in this League,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“At this club I have found a squad which I had never encountered before in my career – young, close-knit and with the desire to get to places.

“I’m happy to be here and I’m certain that we will survive.”

One of the club’s main protagonists this season is 19-year-old Domenico Berardi, the young forward with six goals in eight matches so far.

“He already has professionalism and maturity,” the former Udinese man noted. “He works hard and doesn’t get distracted.

“He will join Juventus [who co-own him] but his real explosion needs to arrive first.”
