Inter set sights on Atalanta defender Scalvini – report

According to reports from numerous outlets in Italy, Inter still have their sights set firmly on the signing of Atalanta and Azzurri defender Giorgio Scalvini ahead of next season.

Following what was reported by both Tuttosport and TMW, directors Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio both have Scalvini at the top of their wish lists for next summer.

Two main benefits lie behind Inter’s pursuit of the 19-year-old centre-back. Firstly is his enormous potential on top of his already impressive set of performances in Serie A.

The second is his nationality and the feeling that Scalvini could go on to become a mainstay in the Italy national team set-up for over a decade in the future.

There are, however, some potential stumbling blocks, such as the cost it will likely take to lure Scalvini away from Atalanta. Tuttosport reports that a figure of €40m at a minimum will be required.

Inter certainly aren’t the only interested party either, as teams in the PRemier League have begun to cotton on to the gem Atalanta currently have in their ranks.

Manchester United could reportedly return to Bergamo, following their summer signing of Rasmus Hojlund, to make a big-money move for Scalvini next year according to Wednesday’s reports.
