Inter plot Verthongen move

Inter are hoping to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Verthongen on a free transfer, according to reports in Italy.

The Nerazzurri are looking for defensive reinforcements, but must be careful to stay within Financial Fair Play parameters before June 30.

Andrea Ranocchia’s contract expires in the summer, while Joao Miranda could leave at the end of this season.

According to Sky journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, their attention is focused on Verthongen, who will also be a free agent in the summer.

He is free to negotiate with clubs outside of England from January, and Inter could look to tie up a deal for the summer, or even sign him for a reduced fee if he signs a pre-contract deal.

It would be a similar strategy to their signing of Stefan de Vrij, who signed last summer after his Lazio deal expired.
