According to reports in Italy, Inter want to lock Alessandro Bastoni down to a new contract and they fear Manchester City far more than Tottenham Hotspur.
The centre-back has made himself a key figure in the three-man defence under Antonio Conte first and then Simone Inzaghi.
He was purchased from Atalanta for €31m in the summer of 2017 and his current deal runs to June 2024, so negotiations are underway to get him a new contract.
Spurs and Manchester City had already been linked a few months ago and were rebuffed by Inter, who are ready to offer the 23-year-old a salary worth over €4m per season.
It is less than he would receive in the Premier League, but Bastoni has always reiterated his desire to remain at San Siro.
According to FCInterNews.it, if Inter do need to worry about a club coming to poach their Italy international, it is not Conte’s Tottenham, but rather Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Bastoni has been compared to Juventus captain Leonardo Bonucci for his playing style and ability to place long passes over the top.
