This summer's Euro champion was an early target for the Biscione, but the Portuguese club proved unwilling to negotiate. Now the Italians, backed by the financial strength of the new ownership, are charging back in for the midfielder.
A report by Portuguese source Record, corroborated by today's edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport, claims that Inter have made an offer of €45m, along with €5m in bonuses.
The details of the offer will be presented by the player's agent Kia Joorabchian, who just landed in Portugal, over the next few days.
Sporting have been firm in their policy not to sell the player, but they may reconsider when faced with this new offer.
