Inter director Marco Branca reveals Andrea Ranocchia is in the stands for tonight's Cesena game due to “a lack of clarity over the rules.”
The defender arrived from Genoa this month and has already made his debut for the Nerazzurri.
However, he is not even on the bench for tonight's rescheduled Week 16 game at San Siro, postponed from December due to Club World Cup commitments.
It is because he played for Genoa in Week 16, so in theory should not be able to play in the same round for two different teams.

“There is no specific rule barring him from playing, but nor is there a clear-cut permission to do so,” explained director Branca.
“It wasn't entirely clear right to the last minute, so we preferred not to risk it. It's a real shame, as it didn't help our Coach prepare for this match.
“Looking at it logically, we could not have a player signed in the January transfer window for a round originally set for December.
“I hope this can be clarified as soon as possible, because it makes me think of sides like Genoa and Sampdoria who have made numerous changes and have to play the derby that was snowed off in December.
“The rules need to be made clear. I don't think it would be a problem for anyone to make it official.”
