Insigne: ‘I’m nobody to the fans’

Lorenzo Insigne confessed he feels unappreciated at Napoli. “I work so hard, but if you don’t score then you’re nobody.”

The local lad is a fan favourite for many, but others have been known to jeer and someone with Napoli in his heart takes that very personally indeed.

“Having a Neapolitan playing for Napoli should bring more love and affection,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss.

The local lad is a fan favourite for many, but others have been known to jeer and someone with Napoli in his heart takes that very personally indeed.

“Having a Neapolitan playing for Napoli should bring more love and affection,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“Here the fans are unusual, as they only see who scores the goals and often don’t see what players do for the team.

“At Napoli if you’re a striker and you don’t score, then you’re nobody. I work so hard and sacrifice myself for the team, even when I don’t find the net.

“I was accustomed to playing in a 4-3-3 with Zdenek Zeman at Pescara. With Rafa Benitez I am called to act as a winger and this means more sacrifice.

“At the start I had a few difficulties, but now I am gaining confidence and performing this role better and better.

“Of course I won’t disguise that I’d prefer to play closer to the goal. I want to tell the fans we will continue fighting for second place to the end of the season.

“It’s just a shame we lost so many points against the smaller clubs, as we could’ve done better.”
