Giannelli Imbula admits Inter’s lack of Champions League football ‘influenced my decision’ to move to Porto.
The midfielder had appeared to be on the verge of moving from Marseille to San Siro, but eventually joined the Portuguese side instead.
“I had a lot of talks in Italy,” Imbula told L’Equipe.
“It’s not that I didn’t want to go, but it was less in line with my sporting expectations.
“Inter are not playing in the Champions League, and that influenced my decision.

“I think this [Porto] is the right way forward after L’OM. I’m at a very important European club. Marseille is a great club, but I think this one is even greater.
“The club was in debt, and I was one of the most valuable assets, there’s nothing wrong with helping out L’OM.
“But listen, no-one made me go anywhere else. It’s always me who decides, not my father, not my agent and not [Marseille President Vincent] Labrune.”
