Ex-Fiorentina forward Gabriel Batistuta complimented Milan director Paolo Maldini for his work with the Rossoneri.

The two enjoyed many battles in Serie A throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.

And Batistuta, who posted his caption with an image of the pair fighting for the ball, hinted a meeting of the two football legends again in the future as representatives of their clubs.

Batistuta wrote on Instagram: “Congratulations Paolo on your renewal as technical director at the club of you heart. Who knows, one day we will face off again, each defending our colours.

“I extend my congratulations to Milan for recognising your professionalism and what you represent to the institution.”

Batistuta spent 10 seasons at Fiorentina, where he scored 207 goals in 333 matches. He joined Roma in 2000 and helped the club win the Scudetto before a six-month stint at Inter in 2003.
