Iachini: ‘Scoreline flattered Juve’

Fiorentina boss Beppe Iachini says the 3-0 defeat to Juventus didn't do justice to his side's performance, and joked that he asked Paulo Dybala "did he want to come and play for us".

Fiorentina boss Beppe Iachini says the 3-0 defeat to Juventus didn't do justice to his side's performance, and joked that he asked Paulo Dybala "did he want to come and play for us".

The Viola were beaten 3-0 by the Old Lady in the early Sunday game, and Iachini says the result doesn’t reflect the reality of the game.

“Commenting only on the result, it almost seems like Fiorentina has come here not to play, but it isn’t so,” said Iachini in his post-game press conference.

“I take this opportunity to congratulate the lads because they had a great game in terms of character and how they played.

“We did not concede almost anything to a great side like Juve. We were good going forward even if we lacked a little something in the final third.

“We come here to play for the three points. I can’t blame the boys on the application level today.”

New signing Igor was slotted straight into the starting eleven against the Bianconeri, and Iachini was impressed with him.

“We saw right away that Igor had the characteristics to play well with us. We expected this, and we worked on it in the last two days.”

Paulo Dybala and Iachini embraced at the beginning of the game, and the Fiorentina was asked what the two said to each other.

“He came to hug me and we said goodbye. We had two wonderful years together. Everyone said he was a midfielder, a winger, but I had immediately seen he was an attacker.

“The closer you put him to the goal, the more dangerous he becomes. He’s an extraordinary lad, from a human point of view. I wish him all the best.

“I also asked him if he wanted to come and play for us, our attackers wouldn’t be offended…”
