Fiorentina coach Beppe Iachini said he believes ‘95 per cent of the squad’ has been set and counts on Federico Chiesa to continue fighting for the Viola colours.
The Tuscan side start with a home game against Torino and the coach revealed he is not sure what to expect from the first match in Serie A 2020-21.
“We want to start again with the same approach and the same attitude, but we don’t know how we will find the team,” Iachini said at a press conference.
“We face an organised side with great players. We will immediately need a great game and attention.
“Many small things that we could have done during other preparations, we didn’t do. We will see how we will be physically and tactically.
“The lads know we have to start from the right foot and with the organisation.”
President Rocco Commisso returned to Florence ahead of the resumption and Iachini was happy to see his boss, stressing he believes in the project at the Franchi.
“First of all, I’m happy to have been able to speak with and see the President,” Iachini said. “He cares a lot about the Viola environment.
“I have great confidence in the work the President and the managers do and believe 95 per cent of the group is ready.
“The ideas are clear. The group can start the competition and then in the next few days we will check if a little something can arrive to complete the ranks. I have great confidence towards the club and the managers.”
Franck Ribery has spent one season in Florence and Iachini said he will continue to be important for Fiorentina going forward.
“Frank is important to us and there are no doubts. We are trying to manage him as well as we can, because he is of a certain age and we must do our utmost to always bring him to the top.
“The whole group must contribute to help the individuals. He gives us that little extra than we want and expect from him.
“The guys know each other, and everyone knows what they must do.”
Federico Chiesa has been linked with a move away from the Viola this summer but is expected to be ready to fight for his teammates.
“As long as he wears the Fiorentina shirt, he is here, and he has to fight for the whole game and for everyone.
“In this respect, he has not made me think otherwise in training. I’m focused on the fact that he can stay here, I haven’t received any other signals.
“The market is the son of many surprises, but Commisso and Chiesa will decide what happens. Today, he’s here with his head and his heart. He has shown that in every training session.”
Fiorentina have brought in Giacomo Bonaventura and Borja Valero for an overcrowded midfield department this summer and Iachini highlighted they were brought in as reinforcements by a ‘technical choice’.
“We wanted to add some quality players. I don’t want to penalise anyone by naming someone, but he and Borja are part of a precise technical choice.
“They increase the level of experience make us more creative. The two have these characteristics. They play more. They are in a squad of six midfielders, with five changes per game.”
