‘I could’ve done more at Man City’

Rolando Bianchi regrets leaving Manchester City in order to come back to Italy in January 2008, admitting he ‘could have done more’.

‘Rolandinho’, as he was nicknamed back then, had started the season well under Sven-Goran Eriksson’s stewardship, scoring at West Ham on the opening day of the season.

But after finding himself often behind Emile Mpenza in the pecking order and bulging the net four times in 19 appearances, he decided to jump ship.

But after finding himself often behind Emile Mpenza in the pecking order and bulging the net four times in 19 appearances, he decided to jump ship.

“I reckon that in Manchester I could have done something more,” Bianchi has reflected today to Sky Sport Italia in an interview.

“I chose to come back to Italy because of the national team. But I think that if I had stayed [in Manchester] I could have done something important.

“When I was young I didn’t think I’d have such a career but now probably I think that I could have done something more.

“In any case, it’s never easy, and I am already happy to have done what I have done.”

Bianchi’s current club Atalanta have the worst attack in the top five European leagues, but the 31-year-old thinks that they have what it takes to play well against Roma when Serie A resumes on November 22.

“The game against Roma will be very difficult for sure because they are one of the most complete sides in the League. But if we play like Atalanta know how to, I think that we can do well.

“Personally I think I have to make the most of the chances I get, but I really hope to score my first goal which would be a little turning point for me.

“I like to stay in one place without having to change too often because it’s never easy to start from scratch every time and win back fans’ affection.

“Staying only in one place for longer helps you to stay calmer during difficult moments. I’d like to do important things with Atalanta – they are the team of my city.”
