Former Lecce coach Roberto D’Aversa is set to be handed a suspension after the headbutt on Hellas Verona striker Thomas Henry, which ended up costing the coach his job.
Players and coaches were involved in a brawl at the conclusion of Lecce’s 1-0 loss to Verona in Serie A on Sunday, which led to an altercation between D’Aversa and Henry.
D’Aversa was officially dismissed from his role as Lecce head coach on Monday.
According to reports from Il Corriere dello Sport, D’Aversa is facing a minimum five-game ban, which will come into effect immediately after the authorities make their decision, regardless of the fact that the coach is no longer in his job.
In Serie A, the minimum banning period for players who receive violent conduct charges is three matches, although there is no specific protocol in place for coaches when it comes to violent conduct.
Il Corriere dello Sport suggests that coaches brought up on violent conduct charges should face a lengthier punishment than players, so a minimum five-game ban is expected for D’Aversa.
