‘Honda never asked to leave’

Adriano Galliani insists Keisuke Honda never asked to leave Milan – “we’re very happy with what he’s doing”.

The midfielder has criticised the Rossoneri publicly at times this season, leading to speculation he could be moved on, but the club’s joint-CEO says he’ll be staying.

The midfielder has criticised the Rossoneri publicly at times this season, leading to speculation he could be moved on, but the club’s joint-CEO says he’ll be staying.

“He’s a very intelligent lad,” Galliani told MilanNews when asked about Honda on his way to a Lega Serie A meeting.

“He has a different mentality to us Italians, because he’s Japanese. I wanted him at all costs, because he’s a great player and he’s showing it.

“He always states his opinions politely. He wants to stay at Milan, and we want to keep him, he’s never been for sale and he’s never asked for a transfer.

“We’re very happy with what he’s doing now. He’s doing very well, he works very hard and sacrifices himself so much for the team.

“He’s a player I really like on a personal level, and he knows it.”
