According to Il Mattino, Hamsik told Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis in a telephone conversation that ‘I can’t say no to such an offer,’ referring to Dalian Yifang’s offer of a three-year contract worth €27m.

The newspaper adds De Laurentiis accepted the decision and thanked his captain, while he would have then told his Partenopei teammates before their 3-0 win against Sampdoria on Saturday that ‘this is my last game with you. I can’t wear another club’s shirt in Italy or Europe.’

The Slovak joined Napoli from Brescia in the summer of 2007 and has gone on to become the club’s all-time top goalscorer and record appearance holder.
