Catania winger Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez admits he’s “flattered to be linked with such a prestigious club as Inter.”

The Argentine has been publicly named as a transfer target by Nerazzurri directors, who stated they could build the future team around him.

“These are reports in the papers, even if I must admit that I am flattered to be linked with such a prestigious club as Inter,” he said in today’s Press conference.

“I must point out that Catania is like a second home to me, as I am very happy in Sicily and the squad is fantastic. I am young and would like to continue growing like this.

“Would I prefer a move to Spain or another Italian club? A player who makes it in Italy can play anywhere, because Serie A is the most difficult League in the world.”

Gomez also commented on Sunday’s last-gasp 1-1 draw with arch rivals Palermo.

“There is sadness and bitterness, as we wanted to win the derby at all costs. Unfortunately, football provides surprises.”
