Gomez was heavily linked with Lazio in the summers of 2017 and 2018, and the 32-year-old confirmed there was truth to the rumours.
“A few years ago, I was close to Lazio,” he told Radio Deejay.
“The Biancocelesti fans still ask me if I’m going there, but I’m happy in Bergamo and at Atalanta.
“We had a great game against them, full of sacrifices to bring home the victory.”
Equally, the Argentine forward could have been playing for Italy by now, were it not for technicalities.
“Giampiero Ventura wanted to call me up to the Italy squad.
“Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible because I’d played and won the U-20 World Cup with Argentina.”
