The Florence outfit will aim to lift their first major trophy since that 2001 triumph when they take on Napoli in Saturday’s final of the same competition.

“It was one of the happiest days of my career,” Gomes said to Radio Toscana. “It was a great joy to win the Coppa and it brought great joy to the fans and the city.

“It’s a source of pride in my career that I won a cup with Fiorentina. That year we did very well in the cup but also in the League, first with Terim and then with Mancini.

“But then everyone knows what happened afterwards.

“Saturday’s final? Fiorentina will miss their absentees, but it’s a final and the Viola work well as a team.

“They have a great attitude and they deserve this final.

“Montella is doing a great job and he will be a great Coach in the future.”
