“The work of a director is to be close to the team, the coach and act as a glue between squad and club,” Giuntoli told Sky Sport Italia.
“We’ve been focused a great deal on this game, because it could secure qualification early and allow us to rotate before the end of the year.
“There is real unity and concentration to get the result this evening.”
The legal letters fining the players for their ‘mutiny’ reached some players this morning, so might that not distract them?
“I think we were fortunate, as nobody can be distracted when going into this match. The lads cannot think of anything else, so I say we were lucky with the fixture list.
“We have always done very well in the Champions League this season, but been shaky in Serie A. We have no internal problems, there is unity and the desire to do well in both Europe and Serie A.”
Giovanni Di Lorenzo surprisingly replaces Jose Callejon on Napoli’s right side of midfield, a more advanced role for the right-back.
“We want to block off their strength down the left flank, but retain our own characteristics by playing out from the back with three. Di Lorenzo is also very good going forward, as he showed as a wing-back at Empoli, so his role will not just be to defend against Liverpool’s attacks down their left, but also to put in crosses and assists.
“We are taking the game to one of the best teams in the world.”
