The Serie A clubs, their medical staff and Players’ Association got together in a videoconference meeting today to thrash out a new version of the medical protocol.
That will be presented to the FIGC and then the Government for approval, but the current version starting from tomorrow dictates that if one player or member of staff tests positive for COVID-19, the entire group must go into quarantine for 15 days.
“We have problem right now, which is the protocol released by the Government,” Giulini told Radio Super Sound.
“By calling for a group quarantine in case of contagion, it’s obvious it would not in our view allow us to complete the season by August 2. If there were one or two positive tests in one or two teams, everything would systematically be blocked for two weeks.
“Seeing as there’s a good probability of that happening, it suggests there’s an 80-90 per cent chance the season wouldn’t finish by August 2, the deadline set by UEFA.
“We are trying to use some common sense, find a way with less rigidity and we should know more over the next few days.”
Although group training is allowed from tomorrow, the Serie A clubs will likely maintain social distancing until the protocol can be finalised.
