Giroud intermediary refuses to rule out Milan exit

Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito, an intermediary for Olivier Giroud, feels the second part of the season will be ‘decisive’ for the striker’s contract extension and insists the France international is ‘not too interested in money.’

Giroud’s Milan contract runs out in June 2024, but the two parties have not yet discussed a new deal. There are reports that the ex-Chelsea and Arsenal striker could move to the MLS in the summer, and Morabito, an Italian agent and intermediary for the 2018 World Cup winner, didn’t guarantee the 37-year-old will remain at San Siro beyond the summer.

“Marriages are done in two, and I believe the second part of the season will be decisive,” he told Radio CRC on Tuesday, as quoted by Calciomercato.com.

“He feels well at Milan, but he must also consider his family. He gave up money from Saudi Arabia because he is not too interested in money and because he has an important contract, but I think we have to wait. In the meantime, he’ll give his all for Milan.”

Giroud is Milan’s best scorer this season with 12 goals and nine assists in 27 appearances across all competitions. He joined the Rossoneri from Chelsea in 2021, winning the Serie A title in his first season with the Rossoneri.

“The year after Milan’s Serie A title, they reached the Champions League semi-final, but their results in the league were affected by the signing of players who were probably not suited to the project,” noted Morabito.

“I believe Milan’s team was not equipped for two competitions. Giroud is one of the few strikers who can hold up the ball. He has important aerial skills and I feel he was crucial in Milan’s Scudetto victory.”

Milan already extended Giroud’s contract by one more year in 2023. The striker has recently spoken about his future confirming that an MLS transfer is possible.

“I still don’t know what will happen in the future. I know that I am happy at Milan and that we’ve done great things,” Giroud told Gazzetta in January.

“It’s a great love story. The club and I haven’t discussed an extension yet, we’ll see and decide later on. The most important thing is to remain focused on the team’s targets.

“MLS? There are other countries too. There will be more opportunities at the end of the season and I’ll decide. As a father and as a footballer.”

Giroud has scored 44 goals in 112 appearances with Milan. The Rossoneri have been linked with several strikers for 2024-25, including Lille’s Jonathan David and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško.
