Marco Giampaolo says Sampdoria would be among Serie A’s top teams had they taken more away points this season.
Following today’s 2-1 win over Udinese, the Blucerchiati have now taken 32 points from fixtures at Marassi this season – compared to just 12 on their travels.
“If we had taken more away points we would be among the top teams,” Giampaolo said after seeing his side move to within seven points of the Champions League places.

“To do that would be to take another leap in quality.
“Our attitude does not change. It’s probably other factors related to character that need to change.”
The Marassi Coach then praised his team’s character after goals by Matias Silvestre and substitute Duvan Zapata helped them earn victory over the Bianconeri.
“It’s a deserved victory. The team played with character and authority.
“It wasn’t a given, Udinese are a strong team. I am happy with the performance, especially after the defeat against Milan.
“When Duvan came on it was his match. He is reliable and strong.
“I try to deploy him based on the match and the characteristics I am looking for."
