Marco Giampaolo still believes Sampdoria can qualify for the Europa League despite their 4-0 hammering at Lazio.
The Blucerchiati remain in eighth place in Serie A despite today’s heavy defeat, with rivals Milan, Fiorentina and Torino all having also lost this weekend.
Speaking post-match at the Stadio Olimpico, Giampaolo expressed his belief that although Simone Inzaghi’s team deserved their win, the scoreline was not a fair reflection of proceedings.

Speaking post-match at the Stadio Olimpico, Giampaolo expressed his belief that although Simone Inzaghi’s team deserved their win, the scoreline was not a fair reflection of proceedings.
“We inflicted it on ourselves, we knew it would be a difficult match,” the Marassi boss commented.
“There is still fight there, I am sorry to have conceded four goals which in my opinion is too many.
“The result is false but Lazio had something extra. We tried to get points but there are differences between the teams.
“Our results at home have definitely been better than those away and we are three points behind Milan.
“The important thing is that we are still there, with the chance to achieve a great objective.”
Giampaolo was asked to explain his decision to leave the influential Fabio Quagliarella on the bench.
“In the final four matches he will need to be the decisive player. Today wasn’t Fabio’s match, but in the next ones he needs to be brilliant.”
