Gervinho ‘unconvincing’ at Roma

Roma seem to be on the verge of signing Gervinho, but Ruggiero Rizzitelli believes the Arsenal striker is “totally unconvincing.”

The reports suggest a deal will be struck for around €8m over the next few days, reuniting the Ivory Coast international with former Lille Coach Rudi Garcia.

“Gervinho is not a hitman and he is too inconsistent,” former Roma striker Rizzitelli told newspaper Leggo.

“I find him totally unconvincing. Even if Garcia requested him, I’d drop this move straight away.

“With Mattia Destro still injured, Roma will be very weakened in attack if they sell Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, who is one of the three or four top forwards in Serie A.”

Gervinho scored just five goals in 18 Premier League games for Arsenal last season, rising to seven goals in 26 matches in all club competition.

Another option mentioned has been an exchange with Genoa between Marco Borriello and Alberto Gilardino.

“Gilardino? He’s a good striker and can help the younger players to mature, but alone he’s not enough to bridge the gap with Juventus, Fiorentina or Napoli.”
