Genoa's ex-director of sport Daniele Faggiano was reportedly dismissed for just cause with the Grifone that have already brought in his replacement.

Faggiano was suddenly sacked by the Grifone on Saturday and according to Il Secolo XIX the Rossoblu believe their former director was dismissed for ‘just cause’.

Faggiano had joined Genoa in the summer but some disagreements and tensions with president Enrico Preziosi and some Genoa players led to his sacking.

“It had to be done,” President Preziosi told the Secolo XIX newspaper on Sunday.

“This is not a situation I took pleasure in, but it was necessary. I won’t get into it, because I don’t like to talk about my employees and judge their behaviour.

“[Francesco] Marroccu is in charge now and knows the club, so can help us achieve our objective.”

Genoa confirmed the appointment of Marroccu on Sunday. He had already been Genoa director of sport from December 2019 to August 2020.
