Genoa eye move for Everton defender Godfrey

Alberto Gilardino’s Genoa are interested in making a January move for Everton centre back Ben Godfrey, Fabrizio Romano reports.

The Ligurian outfit have done well in their first-half season back in the topflight, picking up 25 points from six wins and seven draws in 21 games, putting them comfortably 11th in the Serie A table. They sit eight points clear of relegation candidates Hellas Verona.

Genoa, under the ownership of American investment company 777 Partners, are starting to build an exciting project under Gilardino, with key talents like Mateo Retegui and Albert Gudmundsson.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Genoa are now thinking about making a move for Godfrey in the remaining days of the January transfer window, believing the Englishman to be a good fit for Gilardino’s backline.

777 Partners are also working on completing their takeover of the Toffees and deals between the two clubs could start to become a regular sight, similar to how Udinese and Watford regularly trade players.
