Gattuso’s last game as Napoli coach: who will replace him?

The game against Hellas Verona will be the last one for Gennaro Gattuso as the Napoli coach and Luciano Spalletti is reportedly in pole position to replace him.

The Partenopei need a win against Hellas Verona to finish in the top four. However, a draw could be enough, but only if Juventus fail to beat Bologna.

Back in December, Gattuso was supposed to sign a contract extension with Napoli.

Back in December, Gattuso was supposed to sign a contract extension with Napoli.

However, his relationship with President Aurelio De Laurentiis has quickly deteriorated and the 2006 Italy World Cup winner is expected to leave the club after tonight’s game at the Stadio Maradona.

According to Calciomercato.com, Luciano Spalletti is the leading candidate to replace Gattuso in 2021-22.

Spalletti’s contract with Inter expires on June 30 and De Laurentiis is ready to offer him a contract in the region of €2.5-€3m-a-year.

The likes of Ivan Juric, Vincenzo Italiano and Cristophe Galtier are also being mentioned as possible candidates for the Napoli job.

The same is true of Massimiliano Allegri, De Laurentiis’ first choice, although the former Juventus boss is in talks with Real Madrid.
