The Nigerian suffered a shoulder injury during international duty and later contracted coronavirus.
Mertens is currently out with an ankle injury he suffered against Inter in December and the 33-year-old has only appeared 13 times in Serie A with the Azzurri this term.
Lozano had stepped up in recent months, contributing nine goals in 21 games this term, but the Mexican has now been ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury and Gattuso needs to find another solution going forward.
The tactician has always had some issues in the attacking department but vowed to continue to ‘keep going’ when he spoke to the journalists on Saturday.
Today, he was given further bad news, with Lozano ruled out for both legs against Granada in the Europa League and the matches against Atalanta, Benevento, Sassuolo and Bologna in Serie A.
“That’s football, when it rains, it pours,” Gattuso told Sky Sport Italia after the 1-0 win over Juventus. “We just have to keep going and try to get some players back to full fitness.
“It’s been like that all year, I basically never had the strikers available.”
