The Partenopei continued their excellent form after winning the Coppa Italia with this evening’s 2-0 victory away to Hellas Verona.
The goals were scored by Arek Milik and Hirving Lozano, although their future in the Napoli jersey is a long way from certain.
“All my players are important, especially now that I am able to make five substitutions,” Gattuso told DAZN.
It was Lozano’s first real contribution since he was frozen out of a training session for not putting in enough effort.
“It was a good opportunity for Lozano today and next week it might be Amin Younes. I believe firmly that when you are part of a group, you must all work in the same direction, train at 100 per cent. I hold no grudges.
“It’s reductive today to suggest Napoli were only solid and defended, because we took the initiative and played well. Few sides play as well as Verona, but we were excellent both in possession and off the ball.
“We’re in good shape, we can pass it well and won’t stand for conceding goals. We must improve when it comes to patience and not trying to force moves through, but I like the way the team plays.”
Ghoulam provided an assist from the corner flag today, his first appearance in a long time after injury worries.
“Ghoulam had these little problems that meant he couldn’t be consistent in training, but he is better now. Let’s not forget, two years ago he was one of the best full-backs in the world, so he has immense quality.”
Director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli confirmed before the game that Milik will be put on the market if he doesn’t agree a new contract.
“It’s not my money, so I don’t talk about that,” noted Gattuso when asked about the possibility of losing the Poland international.
“Arek’s contract is running down, he knows that I see few centre-forwards out there who we’d consider an improvement on him. He knows the respect I have for him, both as a player and a man.”
