La Dea were held by struggling Genoa at home. The game ended in a 2-2 draw and Gasperini says they just lacked that clinical edge against the Rossoblu.

“In the first half we started well, then what happened against SPAL happened here, we conceded two fairly avoidable goals,” said Gasperini in his post-match press conference.

“The sides from the bottom have something more at the moment, they are giving their best and have excellent players.

“We were unable to play like as usually can, but we struggle to maintain consistency.”

Josip Ilicic had to go off with an injury during the game.

“Ilicic has a back injury, Duvan Zapata was a choice. Then in the final minutes I put Djimsiti in as a centre forward to give a little bit more presence.

“Ruslan Malinovskyi is our first alternative attacker, even if he doesn’t possess those characteristics.”

Gasperini admits that his side suffered a little in midfield.

“We were inferior in midfield from a tactical imbalance, with Papu Gomez in the middle, but to play in that role he must be physically well.

“I chose Mario Pasalic because he is a bit more offensive, but is also more experienced in that role.

“I have to reflect a little, because the team has given a lot.”
