Roma Coach Rudi Garcia fears his side will struggle to cope next season if they do not add sufficient depth to their squad.
The Giallorossi are now guaranteed Champions League qualification but, with additional fixtures next season, the Frenchman reiterated that he needs a stronger squad in order to compete on all fronts.
“The club wants the same thing as I do, to be competitive,” Garcia said at a Press conference ahead of his team’s match with Milan tomorrow.
“The players know that we only moved forward with this squad because we have only been playing once a week.
“If next year, when we will have to play every three days, we lose players for long periods, like we have this season with Destro, Totti, Gervinho and Strootman, it will be very, very difficult unless we have a stronger squad.
“If we want to be competitive in the League we need to work on this. We are all calm and in agreement that we need to reflect on it, the transfer market is always difficult
“No team can have 100 per cent success in the transfer market. We have done well this year and we will do our best to do well next year as well.
“I’m not setting conditions. I am ambitious and I think Roma are too. We are having a record breaking season but maybe next year will be more difficult.
“First we will see how the season finishes. Then we will have the time to talk to the President, who has always been in charge of the club’s financial planning.
“Then we will do the best we can for Roma next season.”
The tactician then discussed tomorrow’s match with the Rossoneri and said he has still not given up hope of catching Juventus for the Scudetto.
“Tomorrow will be a good match between two teams with a lot of quality and a lot of talented players on the pitch.
“They are playing for Europa League qualification and we are playing to do everything we can to finish first.
“We need to win on Friday evening and then see what happens with Juve’s result.
“Milan are the team to have gone the furthest in the Champions League out of the Italians. That says a lot about the talent they have.
“But we will do everything we can to beat them. We are confident and we know that the Olimpico will have more the 50,000 fans in it and that will give us the motivation to do well.
“We need to play as we have been, with a lot of enthusiasm and attacking play. We need to enjoy the game.
“As for Conte it’s easy to talk about him. He has won two Scudetti and might win a third. That shows he is a good Coach.
“There is no competition between me and him though. I coach Roma and he coaches Juventus, there is nothing more to say.
“Our first target was to make the fans proud and happy with their team. Now we are in the Champions League so there is only one more thing we can achieve before the end of the season, even though our chances are slim.
“Maybe it will be over by the end of the weekend, but maybe it won’t.”
