Garcia: ‘Almost nothing positive’

Rudi Garcia saw “almost nothing positive” in Roma’s 2-0 defeat to Inter and is worried about Leandro Castan.

The Giallorossi were beaten in Philadelphia for the International Champions Cup, seeing them end Group A with a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United and 1-0 win over Real Madrid.

“The principle objective of this US tour was to work on our tempo and physical fitness,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Centre-back Castan crumpled to the ground clutching his hamstring and was carried off the field in the opening stages.

“The really bad news is Castan’s injury. It is a problem and we hope it isn’t too serious. We have a month before the start of the season, but a muscular injury can be a lengthy one.

“Apart from that, the games show we still have a lot to work on. It was good to face up to these important opponents.

“Everyone could’ve done better today and we should’ve moved the ball around much faster. We had too many touches, making our play predictable and easy to read.

“We played against a well-organised Inter side and never managed to catch them out of position. This must act as a real warning for the team. It’s a friendly, fine, but when we are in a competitive match we cannot play like this.

“There was almost nothing positive. It’s a very long road before we can be ready for the start of the season.”

Alessandro Florenzi played as a right-back and is perhaps working towards taking this role more regularly in future.

“When everyone is fit and back from vacation, Florenzi will return to his usual role, which for me is the most interesting one wide in a trident attack. He is capable of this position and is improving defensively.”
