Galtier explains why Verratti is ‘crucial’ to PSG

Italy international Marco Verratti is currently out of action for PSG, but Christophe Galtier hopes he will return soon and explains why the ex-Pescara man is ‘crucial’ for the Ligue 1 giants.

Verratti missed the last two league matches because of an injury.

“Marco has been a crucial player for many years. His presence let us play with different systems because he is a player with great technical qualities,” Galtier said on Saturday, ahead of PSG’s loss to Rennes in Ligue 1.

“His ability to link midfield and attack is really important. He is improving, he has started running and should be back with the group.”

Verratti has never played in Serie A as he joined PSG for €12m in 2012 when Carlo Ancelotti was in charge of the French club.

The Italian midfielder earned promotion to Serie A with Pescara in 2011-12 before his move to Paris. He is one of PSG’s legends, having played 400 games with the Ligue 1 giants.

Verratti made his Italy debut in August 2012 and has scored three goals in 51 appearances with the Azzurri, winning the Euros in 2021.

The Pescara-born midfielder has recently extended his contract with PSG, and his current deal at the Parc des Princes runs out in June 2026.
