Fernando Gago has explained why he decided to leave Real Madrid in the summer and accept a loan move to Roma.
“It was a decision that I made at the last minute,” the Argentine midfielder said in an interview with Leggo.
“I was coming off the back of a difficult season at Real Madrid because of injury. [Roma director general] Franco Baldini then offered me this possibility and it seemed a good one.
“There is a new project here and the possibility to play football. I’m happy, this is a team for me, but my future depends on Roma.”
The Italian outfit do have the option to sign Gago on a permanent basis from the Spanish giants at the end of the season.
Gago, 25, has made nine Serie A appearances so far this season and he’s found the net once under new boss Luis Enrique.
“He’s an excellent Coach,” added the South American. “He has a lot of ideas. We work a lot on ball possession and I have faith. We just need time.”
