Gabbiadini ‘didn’t expect’ Napoli joy

Manolo Gabbiadini admits he “did not expect this” after 1,000 Napoli fans shut down the airport to welcome him.

The striker landed at Capodichino this evening, but had to be smuggled out of a side exit straight from the runway after approximately 1,000 supporters crowded into the airport.

“I thank the fans for the welcome. I did not expect all this enthusiasm,” Gabbiadini told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s a shame I wasn’t able to embrace them today. I know Napoli, so I won’t make promises and will do my talking on the pitch.

He passed his medical this evening, as confirmed by the Napoli Twitter account, ready to complete a €13m transfer from Sampdoria.

There is no rush, as he couldn’t play on Tuesday against Cesena because of suspension.

“I’d love to score against Juventus in my first game, but the most important thing is that the team wins against Cesena.

“The Nazionale? Napoli comes first and everything else can only be a consequence of that.”
