Frattesi angling for first Champions League start with Inter

Inter are gearing up for their Champions League match with RB Salzburg and Davide Frattesi is hoping to be in the starting lineup.

The 24-year-old Italian midfielder was the Nerazzurri’s high-profile signing of the summer transfer window, arriving from Sassuolo on a loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy clause attached, worth around €38m total.

Frattesi has struggled for consistent playing time in the first two months of life with Inter, seeing just one league start and 262 minutes of action total across his first nine appearances.

Page seven of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport highlights how Frattesi is now ready to make his first Champions League start with Inter, set to get the nod over teammate Nicolo Barella.

He was originally supposed to be handed his first start in the win over Benfica at the start of this month, but was ruled out of the match due to a muscle injury.

Frattesi will be joined by Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the midfield, and he’s keen to prove himself to coach Simone Inzaghi and the fans.
