France CT Didier Deschamps isn’t sure Juventus star Paul Pogba will be fit to play at the World Cup next month.
The France international has yet to make his season debut for Juventus due to a meniscus injury that required surgery in September after a month of unproductive conservative therapy.
Pogba will reportedly take his first steps in training with the Juventus squad today, hoping to return to action before the World Cup break even if Max Allegri said last month that the midfielder would not be available for his club until January.
“His recovery is going well,” Deschamps told Sport Mediaset after the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday.
However, that does not mean the 29-year-old will be ready for Qatar 2022.
“That’s another thing. First of all, he must recover, and after that, there is an athletic part to consider,” the ex-Juventus midfielder admitted.
“It’s been a long time since he played his last game, but the most important thing is that he is healed and I think he will be.”
Pogba returned to Juventus on a free transfer last summer after a six-year spell at Manchester United. He signed a contract until 2026 at the Allianz Stadium.
Pogba won the World Cup with France in 2018, scoring one goal in their 4-2 win over Croatia in the Final.
