The head of Napoli’s medical staff believes Lorenzo Insigne's return to the pitch will be in ‘four to six months’.

Insigne was injured during the Partenopei’s win over Fiorentina, with scans later revealing the forward had sustained a cruciate ligament injury to his right knee.

Given the severity of the injury, many had assumed that the 23-year-old’s season would now be over, but Dr Alfonso De Nicola, head of the club’s medical staff believes the diminutive playmaker could be back in as little as four months.

“The operation allows total recovery in a relatively short period of time,” De Nicola explained to Il Mattino.

“The important thing is for Lorenzo to come back at 100 per cent, even stronger than before.

“The recovery time is four to six months, depending on the case.”
