Paulo Fonseca saw a strong defensive team performance from Roma to win 2-0 in Braga, even after losing another two centre-backs.
The Giallorossi scored with Edin Dzeko and Borja Mayoral, but could’ve had several more, if not for poor finishing and two offside flags in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 32 tie.
“We played well as a team, and I want to thank Jordan Veretout for doing very well as a wing-back,” Fonseca told Sky Sport Italia.

“We played well as a team, and I want to thank Jordan Veretout for doing very well as a wing-back,” Fonseca told Sky Sport Italia.
They were already short on defenders before kick-off, then lost Bryan Cristante and Roger Ibanez too.
“I haven’t spoken to the doctor yet, we need to evaluate them tomorrow. It’ll be difficult for us to get them available against Benevento this weekend.”
This was Dzeko’s first start since the row with Fonseca and he immediately found the net, but his replacement Mayoral also scored.
“Dzeko played very well, as did Borja Mayoral and everyone else. Braga are a team with a lot of quality, they created a few problems by attacking the space, but we made sure they were never really dangerous.
“Gianluca Mancini was the vice-captain for this match. The armband is not important right now, we have to think about the present and the future. All we care about is that Dzeko scores goals.
“Could he play with Mayoral? We’ll see in future, but the team is playing well with this system.”
