Antonio Floro Flores sees Udinese’s Europa League exit as a reminder of past defeats. “It’s the second time we’ve gone out at the Friuli.”

The 2-1 victory on the night was not enough against AZ Alkmaar, who go through to the quarter-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

“It was such a shame, as we gave heart and soul throughout the game, but paid a heavy price for the one mistake,” said the striker.

“It’s not good to go out this way, especially as the game was on the right track for us with the early red card.

“This is the second time we’ve gone out at the Friuli in my time here, as we were also eliminated by Werder Bremen. I’d like to get back into Europe so next season we can avoid it happening again.

“Now on Sunday we have a difficult game against Napoli. Both sides need to wash off the disappointment of the last few days and try not to make the same mistakes.

“I have to thank the fans, as they supported us throughout. Hopefully we can soon start making them happy again.”
