Fiorentina plan to bid for Catania striker Maxi Lopez if Alberto Gilardino decides to leave the Artemio Franchi at the end of the season.

Gilardino says he will take a leaf out of Riccardo Montolivo's book and consider his options in May amid strong interest from Fiorentina's bitter rivals Juventus.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he said: "I hope to dust off my violin on Sunday evening. As for the rest I know that as long as there is the Della Valle family Fiorentina will be a strong team that fights to qualify for the Champions League and make people dream.

"I have another two years left on my contract and my future is not a problem. My family and I are very happy here. My desire is to stay. Then again in football you never know."

La Gazzetta dello Sport thinks Gilardino's last sentence indicates that Fiorentina would accept an offer at the right price.

It's no secret that Fiorentina Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has a strong relationship with Maxi Lopez. He scored 11 goals in 17 games under his management at Catania.

Fiorentina director of sport Pantaleo Corvino is said to have been in touch with Maxi Lopez's agents to sound out his interest.
