Fiorentina suffered another heavy pre-season friendly defeat, falling 3-0 to Sporting Lisbon at the Estadio Alvalade.

The trip to Portugal got off to the worst possible start, as David Pizarro’s error sparked a counter-attack with Montero smashing his shot under the bar.

Renaudo and Wilson Eduardo also threatened, while the Viola finally went close to an equaliser with Giuseppe Rossi’s strike palmed out for a corner. From that set play Ahmed Hegazy found the net, but was flagged offside.

After the break Stevan Savic flicked on a corner for Mario Gomez, who came sliding in to turn over the bar.

Savic gave away the second goal with a defensive howler, as his backpass for Gustavo Munua was too short and intercepted by Carrillo.

The error clearly got to the former Manchester City defender, as moments later he also incredibly hit the bar when it seemed easier to score from a Gomez assist.

Sporting added their third a minute later, as Semedo was given space and time to beat a helpless Munua.

The Portuguese hosts went down to 10 men after goalkeeper Rui Patricio came tearing out to bring down Oleksandr Iakovenko on the edge of the box.

Pizarro was unlucky to rattle the crossbar from distance and Gomez misplaced his header from an Adem Ljajic cross.
