Fiorentina’s Nicolas Gonzalez has thanked Inter forward and Argentina teammate Lautaro Martinez for his sportsmanship at full-time of the Coppa Italia final, which the Nerazzurri won 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to El Toro’s first-half brace on Wednesday evening.
Gonzalez had opened the scoring on the night, putting La Viola 1-0 ahead after just three minutes, but Inzaghi’s men were able to reverse the deficit less than 35 minutes later.
Moments after referee Massimiliano Irrati blew for full time on Wednesday night, Martinez immediately went over to console his compatriot, who was in tears after the defeat, giving him a big hug and offering some words of consolation.
Later, on Instagram, Gonzalez wrote: “Brother, thank you so much for this grand gesture and congratulations for the game and for the cup. You always deserve the best.”
